Modern Piano Course:
Who is this course designed for?
This course is designed for people who are new to playing piano and also students who have some experience but want to develop improvisation skills. The course is suitable for all ages however I would recommend younger children (8 and under) start with one on one lessons. It’s also suitable for singers and musicians who want to quickly learn how to accompany themselves or add piano to recordings.
What’s the difference between modern piano lessons and classical piano lessons?
Modern piano lessons are focused around chords and improvisation. You don’t need to be able to read music to learn how to play using this system. Classical piano lessons are focused around reading music, learning the relationship between the music notes on the page and the keys on the piano, and complex rhythm and note combinations. The learning curve for modern piano is quite fast however classical piano takes a lot longer to learn.
How long is the course?
The modern piano course is 14 weeks.
What will I learn?
You will learn how to play the piano based around the 12 major and minor chords, scales and arpeggios. Each week you will learn a different chord, it’s variations and how to create a full, textured sound. You will learn how to create interesting note and rhythm combinations that can be applied to a simple chord chart.
How is the course structured?
As a student you will be granted access to your member area where you will receive weekly video lessons. You will be required to practice the exercises in each lesson for a full week. This will develop coordination, visual recollection of notes and speed. You will be able to test your skills each week by completing the “keep up with Ian” video where I play the exercises at a faster consistent pace. You will have access to me as your coach via the comments section in each lesson if you have questions.
Course Outcomes
By the end of the course you will be able to play the 12 major and minor chords, scales and their variations. You will confidently play with both your left and right hands simultaneously to create a full and textured sound. You will learn how to improvise over chord structures so that you can pick up a chord or lyric sheet and start playing without the need to read music.
Learn to Read Music Course:
Who is the course designed for?
The course is designed for people who can’t read music. It’s perfect for singers who want to learn how to read the notes on sheet music and develop the ability to sight sing and musicians who are self taught but need to learn how to relate what they are playing to the notes on the page. If you are a songwriter the course will give you the ability to notate melodies and rhythms.
What will I learn?
You will learn how to recognise note lengths, read the individual notes on sheet music and confidently clap or sing rhythmic patterns. You will learn the structure of chords, scales and key signatures and how they relate to each other to form songs. You will learn how to recognise intervals and develop the ability to sing what you are looking at without playing the notes first.
How is the course structured?
As a student you will be granted access to your member area where you will receive weekly video lessons where I cover individual topics. You will be required to download a pdf worksheet for each video to test your knowledge on each topic. You will have access to me as your coach via the comments section in each lesson if you have questions.
How long is the course?
The course duration is 14 weeks
Course Outcomes
By the end of the course you will be able to look at a piece of sheet music and confidently recognise the notes, rhythmic patterns and musical terms. If you are a singer you will be able to sight sing melody lines. If you play an instrument you will be able to relate what you are playing to what is on the sheet music. If you are a song writer you will be able to notate melodies and chord structures.
